Sometimes there's signs saying last gas for X miles. But in general going through Death Valley, going to the national parks you need to gas up and never let the tank drop below a quarter full. We drove from Vegas to Yosemite, for example and there were stretches of 100 miles or more with nothing but desert in every direction.

Fuel is just common sense and planning really.
You have a good idea of the distance you will be driving that day, also the mpg of the vehicle you are driving. As such you can work out if you have a safe range, and can see on a map where major towns are and where you should ideally fill up. For example on the GC South run it makes sense to leave with a full tank and then ensure you fill up at Flagstaff or Kingman depending on direction. As for visiting Peggy Sue's Diner and Calico ghost town, then would not be able to do Palm Springs as they are on the LA to Las Vegas route at Barstow. So you have a decision, visit Palm Springs or Barstow. I assume you fly out of Vegas and don't have to go back to LA? Otherwise you could do Barstow on the way back. |
