I did read up on what to do in a quake but otherwise I’m not worried about our trip and it hasn’t put a dampener on my planning.

We were in LA for both quakes, didn't notice the first one aas we were in a tour cart at universal but I did feel an after shock. The second one we noticed but it wasn't bad at all in LA. My brother and his partner also explained that the buildings around there are built on rolling foundations which absorb a lot of the movement. And a lady in WB reckoned it was a 1.something by the time it reached us.

The guy we are renting the Airbnb from in Joshua Tree reckoned they felt it much more out here and it was the biggest one he's felt in 15 years of living here.

My understanding is that there are multiple fault lines along California and it is prone to earthquakes which are difficult to predict. The area is also due a 'big one' which may have devastating effects.

These quakes have made us a little nervous but we haven't changed any of our plans. I believe that there is a strong possibility of more quakes in the imminent future but I also know that millions of Californians and tourists are carrying on as usual.

As previously said, be prepared and know what to do if the worst happens x

I won’t pretend I’m seeing it as carry on as usual because this has unsettled me a bit. When we went to Japan, last year, I was aware this could happen, but for some reason, I feel more nervous now

California has frequent earthquakes but usually so low on the Richter scale they can’t be felt. Apparently there was a minor one when we were there in 2017 but we never felt a think and nobody mentioned it. Only found out now looking at the site that lists all the activity, it was a 1.2. So the silver lining of this might be that we will all look up how to stay safe in an earthquake whereas if this didn’t happen we would have never looked up that information even though California has always had earthquakes and the risk has always been there.

More chance of getting struck by lightning in Florida.

Be aware of what to do, but don't worry about it and enjoy your holiday.

I have to admit it’s made me nervous but we won’t be changing any of our plans. I’ve downloaded an Earthquake app that sends you alerts and got us all to read up on what to do in the event of one
