He’s still plodding along, albeit very slowly in the heat. Munching on prawns, fish fingers, and having his evening stroll out front !
Saw the vet last Thurs and she said the wound is not going to heal itself. We have 3 options. I’ve talked them through with DSis and DBro. If any of you kind Dibbers have experience or opinions, feel free to comment. Option 1: Carry on as we are, bathing and keeping the wound clean. He’s not in pain so it’s ‘do-able’. But if it suddenly got infected he would be very unwell and in pain very quickly. I really don’t want to take the risk that his last hours would be so miserable for him. Option 2: she could put a couple of stitches in. Thing is, it would be under light sedation and local anaesthetic. He’s nearly 22 so it’s a bigger risk than for a much younger cat. He might not come through the procedure. Option 3: Have him PTS before it turns nasty and makes him really poorly. Such a hard decision. Linda xx Edited at 07:46 PM. |

I’m so sorry I have no experience of this myself but in my opinion I’d have to go for option 2 and go for it. I don’t think 1 is a go and I couldn’t put my baby down without trying. What ever you do it will be the right thing my good wishes are with you.

Oh gosh that’s a really hard one.
If he’s otherwise OK (at least eating/drinking/enjoying his little life) I don’t think I could bear to PTS. However that option will be difficult no matter what. I actually have no advice, sorry, just loads of love to Eric xx |

Such a hard decision to make, he is your baby and must be so difficult to work out what to do for the best, i would go for option 2, just to give him a chance, if the worst happened and he didnt make it through he wouldnt know, but if it works may buy him more time and be a bit more comfortable for him. Pixie dust for Eric. X

Glad he is doing ok for now. What a really hard decision to make. I think 3 is out, as thats just unthinkable. Dont even pretend to know a lot about older cats and anaesthetic, but from the vet programs I have watched they keep a very close eye on them, so hopefully he should be ok. Think that would be my choice. What do sis and hubby think?
