Excited about Disney

If I were you I would split my trip, Anahaim is great for Disney & Santa Monica is not to bad for a drive.
Universal / Beverley Hills you need to stay on the other side of LA ... around Burbank is reasonable. The freeways are very busy even at quite times of the day (24hrs), rush hour is like pulling into a giant car park.. if you have ever been on the M25 you ain't seen nothing yet, up to 9 lanes in either direction of slow moving traffic. Yes I've got the t shirt... never again

Personally I would split the stay if you want to spend more than a day or possibly 2 in LA: Somewhere central in LA, then in Anaheim. If you can't do this then it's not the end of the world but just be prepared for some traffic (even avoiding rush hour it's quite heavy) We drove from Santa Clarita (SFMM) to Anaheim and for me this was the hardest drive of the holiday, though still perfectly doable (and we drove a lot! From San Francisco to Vegas with stops in between) I missed exits a couple of times as they come up really quickly and it can be hard to get into the correct lane with all the traffic but it was easy to correct, as mentioned a sat nav is invaluable!
San Diego is a very easy drive from Anaheim, we went there for the day just to visit the zoo but wished we'd had longer (itinerary was already chock full but we'll visit for a couple of nights next time i'm sure)
