Should I go to Vegas?

So next year in July is my <insert annoying number that is divisible by ten here> birthday and I was thinking of going to Vegas for a few nights - just me and DW to celebrate/commiserate. The whole idea depends on whether I can get Avios flights though.

(We're also intending on going to Florida in August so need to keep costs reasonable...).

Who has been? Is the weather ridiculous in July? What's to do? (not really bothered about gambling really). I want to see Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. Not sure what else?

Where should I stay? I like the look of the Venetian and Bellagio.

Or, is there anywhere else I should go instead? (I'm pretty much ruling out New York because we went this year for DWs birthday and it's likely we'll end up back there in a year or two anyway).

We love Las Vegas. Have been as a coulee and with kids. Loads to do fr everyone so I would say YES do it. Grand Canyan is a must. Go down in a helicopter -amazing. We have stayed in the Luxor, MGM and Mandalay Bay. All at one end of the strip so you may want to be closer to the centre. We walked around most of the hotels while there last time and the Cosmopolitan looked good. We would love to stay at Ceasars Palace. We never gamble and can fill in a week easy with other things. There are white tigers, Dolphins, museums, an aquarium and loads of shows. All just depends on your budget really.

I would say go for it. We went in August and coped fine with the weather. We did the grand canyon in the helicopter, saw David Copperfield, Penn and teller and Celine Dion. We stayed at the my, which was fine, we hardly used the room we were out and about so much. I would definitely go back again I'm just trying to convince hubby. We don't gamble massively but did have a wee flutter on tables and machines.

I would always go to Vegas, but yes July will be very very hot.

Plenty to do in Vegas aside from gambling/drinking, We do neither and next year is trips number 10 & 11..

Where to stay depends on budget.. I would prefer the Venetian to the Bellagio and the Venetian almost always has offers on if you sign up. Often in the summer months you can get some really good deals as the heat puts a lot of people off.

Get a car , We always have one and it makes getting about so easy, Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, Kingman all decent places to visit.. One of the best things we've done in Vegas is The Neon Museum.

I wouldn't go for less than a week though , its not somewhere I'd go for a few times as its such a long flight and time difference.

Absolutely. We went last year for OHs 50th. He wanted to play poker in Vegas. We decided to get married while we were there too . Had a fantastic time and, whilst I'm not a gambler here, I did enjoy a wee flutter there.


So much to do. We are planning on going back in 2019 as we didn't see ha,f of what we wanted to.

Did a helicopter trip to the canyon which was a highlight.

We stayed at the Bellagio for hubbys 50th.
in October. We loved it. So much so, were heading back for a few days this summer. Im not a gambler and didn't think I would but its kind of addictive and fun. We had a blast.

Hi how long can you go for . Would it be possible to do a little road trip, San Fran ,Yosemite ,vegas ,canyon and dam

Go for it. Yes it will be hot but you can be indoors a lot. GC is amazing and Valley of Fire well worth a visit as is Red Rock. You will not be disappointed in the Venetian it's a lovely hotel and well worth the little extra money. Try and go for as long as you can as you will find loads of places to visit and it's a long way to go for just a few days.

I'd probably be looking at 5 nights. Harder to do longer than that as a) It's during school term time and we'd be leaving DS at home with DD, and b) We're intending on going to Florida about 4 weeks later (i.e. next year is going to be VERY expensive!) Also, I'm going to run out of annual leave. So I hope that'll be long enough. We could maybe squeeze it to 6 days at a push.

Penn and Teller was one of the reasons I wanted to go, but then we actually saw them last week in London anyway! Won't stop me going to see them a second time though - they were brilliant!

Hadn't really considered a car, but maybe that's a better idea than going on escorted tours, so that's probably worth a consideration, at least for a day or two.

We go in 2 weeks and tbh we are quite worried about the weather as there has been a heatwave recently. However we are soooo looking forward to it, I will post on my return about the weather.
