☆ First Time To New York ☆ Day Three Circle Line Cruise

Monday 13th Feb 2012

Today we planned to use our NY City Passes for the Circle Line Cruise which departs from Pier 83 at the end of 42nd st. As our hotel was at the opposite end of 42nd st, it was an easy and quick ride on the bus straight along to the pier. This was our first time of catching a bus in NY, and its a great system. For those who dont know, all of the buses in Manhattan travel up/down or side to side on their designated street or avenue. Its a fantastically simple system, and as a bus comes along every couple of minutes you never wait long. Travellers purchase a Metro card which you load up, then swipe when you board the bus. Your Metro card is debited when you first start your journey, then subsequent bus journeys within a 2 hour period are free, enabling you to criss cross the city for one price, as you would on the subway.

So on to the cruise, a 2 hour semi circle trip around Manhattan.

We really enjoyed this experience. It was a bright but cold and blustery day. The only way to take pictures was to go on deck (as the windows of the boat were very dirty!) but we had great fun being blown about by the wind, and the views are fabulous!

Following this we caught the bus back along 42nd st, then walked down 7th avenue to Macy's for some shopping. This store was huge, and inside it has its own McDonalds and Starbucks - the kids loved it! Joe bought some Junior Ralph Lauren tops and Kerensa got some pink Calvin Klein jeans for $22, reduced from $85.

We enjoyed a Starbucks then headed back to the hotel with our shopping. After a bit of chill time, we got changed and headed out to dinner.

Tomorrow - Top of the Rock, Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales.

What a beautiful day, with gorgeous blue sky.

We've never done the cruise, but it looks great. It might have to make it onto my list for our next visit - not that we've got one in the pipeline yet.
