It tends to be between 9 and 10 cents difference, so would need to be close to the $2.10 mark for the tourist rate to be $2 to £1.

Yeah pretty sure they were giving $2 to the £1 when the business rate was about £2.10
The business rate has bounced back to $2.014 down from $1.97 last week. Knew it would recover (well I hoped it would ) Not soon to go now |

Does anyone know which rate do you get against credit card purchases, business or tourist?

You would get the business rate with Credit Card purchases.

The rate you get with a credit card isn't necessarily the business rate. From what I have read on the DIBB the Nationwide credit card does in fact give you the business rate but my Halifax card does not. I have a couple of recent purchases which were converted about 2-3 cents off the business rate.

nationwide gives the business rate.
the statement can be an entertaining read, who would have thought the rate could change between walking out of one shop and into another. |

Travelex are currently offering $1.9544 and the business rate is £2.003 so we are talking about 5-6 cents difference.
CC will give you the business rate minus a max of 2.75% (not including the Nationwide CC) say about $1.95 at todays rate. |

Thanks for that, now I understand why so many Dibbers talk about the Nationwide CC. I used an Egg card to purchase Universal tickets yesterday, and when I e-mailed Egg I was told that they use the XE rate, which I was pleased about until I read
'There’s a 2.75% charge when you use your Egg Card to pay for anything in a foreign currency. We add this charge to the amount you’ve spent, so it won’t appear separately on your statement. And, of course, everything is automatically converted into sterling.' which I was less pleased about. I'm seriously thinking of applying for a Nationwide card as this 2.75% could soon mount up, once shopping in Florida. |
