Thanks for the recommendation. We've booked a kayaking tour setting off from the beach there. Were thinking of staying in Cambria or Moonstone Beach. Which would you recommend?

SF:
Alcatraz night tour - book in advance Coit Tower - cab there and walk back down Movies Tour - lots of fun and informative Muir Woods/Sausolito - half day trip PCH: Monterey - whale watching - fantastic! Monterey - aquarium Stop off to see the elephant seals on their beach- forget exactly where it is but it's clearly marked so hard to miss LA: Warner Bros Movies Tour - book in advance as movies tours sell out Universal - if only for the Backlot Tour Avoid - Six Flags on a weekend!

In addition to the recommendations above I'd say one of the best things we did in SF was the Movie Tour (sanfranciscomovietours/).
Even if you're not a movue fan it's a great tour of the city and takes to to some of the less "tourist" places. Highly recommend

Moonstone Beach is in Cambria I think. We stayed at Moonstone Landing. Lovely room. Then we went to the castle.

Walk up to the Hollywood sign! It's much easier than you might think There are amazing views of the sign from the trail and you don't even have to go all the way to the top for incredible views of LA. It's also within walking distance of the Chinese theatre and the walk of fame and all those things so you could do the sign in the morning before it gets too hot, have a picnic on the trail and then stroll back down for dinner at Mel's Drive In or Disneys Soda Fountain. It's the best thing we did in Hollywood and I can send you the directions if you're interested.

If you like big coasters Six Flags is a must, it has some great rides but queues can be bad if you choose the wrong day. Personally, I was very disappointed in US Hollywood. Backlot tour was good, but after that the other attractions are a duplication (and sometimes shorter version) of what you've already done in Orlando. It's a half day park in my opinion and we'll give it a miss on any future West Coast trips, but each to their own
