I think the film is more about showing how peer pressure Affects things as opposed to sexism - in this case how you should look. The fact that they did hook up in the summer as 'themselves' demonstrates how hard it is for high school kids to have to 'fit in' as a result of peer pressure.

Just my thoughts! 😂

Its funny that I didnt really think of it that way but I havent watched it in ages. I must admit to turning off Pretty Woman mid way because it made me very very uncomfortable now. Its just how my view of things has changed, I dont see the movie as romantic I see it now as seedy and controlling. Its so strange as I used to love that movie as well but since being exposed to the exploitation behind the sex worker industry which these days is intrinsically linked to trafficking its something I just cant unsee and enjoy as a movie like I once did. Still love the soundtrack though.

There's a restaurant opposite Old Town (could be called Filling Station) that is pretty retro and has Grease playing on silently on TVs but different music playing. I was shocked how many lines I knew from Grease.

Exactly this ... I’m certain if we run the slide rule over many Disney films then fault could be found in 2020. Just watch and enjoy them for what they are.

I'm 25 and loved the film when I was younger. Me and my best friend used to take the song book into primary school and sing the songs in the playground. I got to a certain age and I started to wonder why she is smoking at the end of the film when she tried a cigarette earlier in the movie and didn't like it. The whole idea that giving into peer pressure is the only way to get what you want isn't great when it comes to drinking, sex, smoking etc. But as a teen I was able to distinguish that from reality and make my own mind up so I don't see the harm really! I probably wouldn't let young kids watch it personally though.
