Wonder if anyone can advise me as I am getting confused looking online.
Friend of ours in US is sending DD a birthday gift - DD is asking for Baths and Body works stuff but are then any restrictions on what items can and can’t be sent?
I know shower gels and body creams are ok but can the body mists and hand gels be sent in the post?

Don't think there's any restrictions on what can be sent, but please be aware that you're likely to be "stung" a customs charge buy the post office/courier delivering the package to you.

Not true for gifts. I get Christmas gifts every year from friends in California and have not had customs charges.

However a few years ago I ordered from Victoria Secret online, before they had a European delivery service and I did have to pay custom charges.

There are restrictions sending aerosols overseas from the U.K. so I imagine there would be the same to over here.

Gift are ok sometimes you pay VAT depending on cost but not duty. Not had toiletries sent over before but she is 12 this year so is “in” to all that now

The Bath and Bodyworks ones are pump sprays so I wasn’t sure if that was classed as an aerosol or not. I can’t seem to find an answer on any mailing company websites, they refer to aerosols only. I don’t want to tell them to buy her something and it then be confiscated

Think I read the anti-bac gels have been a problem for some shippers due to them being a flammable type risk in theory due to the alcohol content.

I have had many things sent from the States over the years, bought, sent as gift for birthdays etc and many f them have been hit for import duty, VAT and handling fee - there appears to be not logical process for some being hit and others not!

I imagine the body mists will be the same then as they will have some form of alcohol I would have thought.
Yeah I have had hit and miss over the years and had to pay a few times. I don’t think I have ever paid more than £30 though

have to disagree , my sister lives in Boston and has sent presents many times and twice (most recent being a few months ago) we had to pay charges.

There are two things that you can ask the sender to do so as to avoid unnecessary charges.
Have them write on the CN22 (customs declaration certificate) form.
Unsolicited Gift.
Or
Personal belongings.
