I'll probably be having the same conversation in a couple of weeks time. I only paid £350 each for our April 20 flights, ok there were economy light but I'm not paying more than an extra £200 each max for economy for October next year .

Just had a quick look at prices from Glasgow for late August returning mid September and it's £5148 economy classic and £5048 upper class uhm now what should I book (if I was going then). That's for two adults.

With VA offering a reschedule on anything booked until Dec for 2021 i can see this happening left right and centre. They will have us all over a barrel won't they?

It could well be because the dates have just been released. Give it a few days and I think they will drop considerably.

I wouldn't necessarily disagree with £400 being a target for September flights, but I would say that in this current environment things have changed, and the "right price", may also have changed.
I'd certainly agree that getting a refund was the way to go. We took refunds on all our 2020 bookings. Expedia simply refunded flights and although it took a while for the money to turn up, it arrived within the time frames they told us. Disney offered a rebooking which was simply rack rate for this summer. We figured that if they subsequently offered a discount we'd have to pay a change fee to take advantage of it, so we took a refund instead. Now with cash in hand we can book as new customers and simply pay just the new price. We are yet to book anything for 2021 as things are still too uncertain for us. There is nothing stopping last minute if needs be, or we can skip another year if that is a suitable paln...all without worrying.

Problem was, and I didn't think about this until after the phone call was over, I didn't want an upgrade, I just wanted the seats I had booked and paid for!
Thank you to everyone who has responded, I am now adamant that unless he comes back to me with a minimal price increase on Monday and my exit row seats, I will demand a refund and then can have a look around to see what else is on offer. We have been flying with Virgin since 1989, but that clearly means absolutely nothing to them, sadly. I am also worried that this company will go the way of TC and others, and that as some have said, if we accept a credit note and they go under, we will be at the back of the queue to get anything back. Thanks all, I knew I'd get good support on here.

I had an interesting similar position with United yesterday. I have been monitoring a set of flights and during yesterday afternoon the price suddenly dropped. I immediately tried to book them but because I was trying to use a credit the price was different (over 3£K) between a new booking and a credit booking. In the end United have told me they have refunded my original booking and I have booked the new flights as a new booking. Fingers crossed the credit arrives on my credit card before the bill gets made up!
In all honesty though I can't complain about the United social media team who were really quick at looking at the issue and providing a resolution. Dee |

In my view it was always clear that this is what Virgin were going to do.
Thats why I wanted my cash back. Didnt even wait for them and did a chargeback on my AmEx card. Had my money in under 2 days. I couldn't be bothered with all their messing around. |

Update : well the cheery young man called me back today, as promised. He said that he could have sent me an email, but wanted to call me back personally with some good news. Okay, I said, off we go then …… He told me that not only was there no increase in the seat prices, but that they had actually DECREASED by just over £200 each! Therefore, VA will be refunding me around £418 within a few days. I asked about the pre-booked exit row seats, and he confirmed that they are still booked for me, and I will get email confirmation of this. I felt a bit guilty that I had yelled at him a bit last week, so told him that he was my favourite person of the week, which made him laugh.
So - all's well that ends well, as some famous playwright once wrote! Phew.
