Favourite 5 ( or more) things to do in and around New York ?

So I have a long term plan to do a USA trip covering parts of the west coast , but also including a few nights in New York

To help me planning, and to determine how long to stay , could you help my letting me know your favourite 5 ( or more) things to do in / around New York , ideally in order of favouritism

Approx Cost and time needed would be useful.
As would if there was anything you thought was over-hyped or a waste of time or money ?

Thanks for all your suggestions

Me again!

1. Top of the Rock at dusk, the best view IMO. Empire State Building was completely over crowded and bordering a dangerous crowd level

2. Statue of Liberty. Try and get pedestal or crown tickets

3. Wandering around Greenwich Village and pretend you're one of the locals

4. Get the subway over to Brooklyn and walk back over the B/Bridge towards the city

5. An afternoon in Central Park

6. See a Broadway show

7. Walk the Highline and visit Chelsea Market

8. Eat in George's, Ryan Maguire's, Junior's, Tick Tock Diner, Ellen's Stardust Diner

Following along as we are off to NYC in May. Always good to hear other people’s top picks. Already booked to go and see ‘The 1975’ at Maddison square gardens. Can’t wait for that!

Hi there,

So here’s my list - sorry no idea of prices!

The Ride - such a fun and unusual tour of the city! If you like a bit of interactive entertainment!

Statue of Liberty - been twice, had crown access once it was pretty cool being up there!

Top of the Rock in the evening - just stunning views and as already mentioned much quieter than day time

A broadway show - my daughter and I love the theatre and the shows are just spectacular

Central Park - just so much to see a really beatiful space in the middle of a crazy busy city!

So many things that we enjoyed it’s got such a buzz about it, take time to just wander around and take it all in.

We went at Easter for 2/3 days, and the ice rink was still open in Central Park.

We walked / taxi / uber to sights without paying to do / go in anything.

Staten Island Ferry is free and a great way to see SOL and look back at NYC. We took in Wall Street and One World Observatory and a shopping outlet.

The walk across Brooklyn Bridge and a Pizza the other side was a nice trip.

Central Station was good to visit too and have a coffee people watching. We popped into Central Library, entrance to ESB, watched ice skating at Rockerfella and had a Macdonalds in Time Square!

We had a shorter time than you, so wanted to tick things off - worked well, as planning a walking route you can see so much in one go.
