Thanks all. Just to add, I’m renting not buying. I’m very happy with the house, just wondered if the negatives expressed by my in-laws were them over reacting or if there is a hundred things I should worry about.
Reading these replies I’m very happy to go ahead with the lease 🙂

We moved onto our estate whilst building work was ongoing. The unadopted roads remained unfinished for a couple of years but no issue. They are still building at the back of the estate I think.

OP I think the heading saying that family were interfering not for example raising interesting questions is why people may have been assuming you had an issue with your parents in law making the comments.

If I was renting there is no way I would want to be bound to a lease of a new build until snagging had been dealt with as chasing snagging on a new build is hard enough when you are the owner, chasing through a landlord will be even more difficult.

I think myself and many others thought when you said ' we are renting, and have just found a great place ' that you meant you were currently renting but looking to get out of rental into a house for sale.

If I was just renting, I would definitely not by a new build house, unsnagged , on an unfinished estate.
Why have all the hassle to then potentially buy somewhere else down the line ?

Just rent somewhere nice while you confirm this big move is definitely a long term venture then buy something at that time.

We bought a new build but it was complete when we got it and right at the end of the estate so we were never on a building site . I would buy new build again on the early part of an estate only if I intended to stay there long term and put up with the ' short term pain, long term gain'

We moved into a new build street when I was 38 weeks pregnant with twins and we had three other children. It was fine! We moved in when the development was about 40% complete.

I'd definitely do it again especially now we both work full time so would be out for most of the noise anyway.

We aren’t planning on buying

Is there somewhere else that your in laws want you to move to instead? I must admit that I also presumed that you would be buying in the new estate. But if renting then the other side of the coin is you won't be stuck there with the hassle of selling if it's not as you like at the end on the building. You would just fulfill your contractual obligations to the landlord and move again

We moved into a new build years ago - was 1st Dec, 6 month old DS, a Christening, bad weather and Christmas around the corner.

Our house was built close to entrance to estate with a few around us. The road was a mess, was muddy and noisy but it was only for 6-12 months. The buildwork doesn't last for ever and most people were out at work.

Don't let it put you off but make sure all your snags are done before they leave site. We moved in but hadn't seen the house for 6 months since we put down a deposit, had no kitchen put in and no snags done. It took awhile to sort but got there in the end. It would never put me off doing it again but I would make sure I had been in it and checked it out before we exchanged/moved etc. error on out part, maybe naive but we learn from mistakes and we were young (ish)!

Enjoy your new home
