I've done topside in the slow cooker a few times, I season and seal it first then soften some roughly chopped carrot, onion and celery. Place the veg on the bottom of the slow cooker and the beef on top, you don't need any liquid as the joint makes plenty as it cooks which you can then use for gravy.

I only started using a slow cooker a few weeks ago and have done two joints of beef in it so far , I won't do roast beef any other way now as they were both delicious, cooked to perfection and no worry if it will be tender or not as my beef roasting in the oven could be hit and miss .
I have a sear and stew so I brown the beef off in the inner pot on the cooker ring , I use beef dripping for that as I think it gives it a nice " roasted " beef taste , I don't add anything else other than about 250mls of beef stock, slow cook on med for around 6 hrs or low 7-8 hrs .take the joint out wrap it in tin foil to let it settle before carving, add some liquid from boiled cabbage to the meat juices and make the gravy from that .

Yes if it fits in the slow cooker it should be ready but you will need to let it cool to slice it
