It's only when I encode an output that I select either Interlace for TV (DVD) or Non Interlace for PC/Web viewing.

The original projects remains Raw DV (Interlaced.)

Which, all in all, is a crap answer for you. Sorry =)

I'll have a better answer tommorow when I have played with Elements, I'm sure.

Another way of putting it, is that you need to export/encode it twice, once for each medium

Encoding video is one of the hardest to understand things I have ever come accross. I am completely baffled by all the options at times.

Edit:

I should have said "I am completely baffled" and not said "at times" because I have no idea what things like "field order" mean what-so-ever at the moment.

Well, now I understand it a bit better. I thought for a horrible moment that I needed to change to settings of the video clips on the Timeline. Phew!

So... Andy if you, or anyone else, can figure out a way to get rid of those lines during export from Premiere Elements to Windows Media then I'll be very grateful!

My own way of doing it is with VirtualDubMod as I can control what's going on. But it's not the most obvious and friendly program around until you get used to it (it's an old and simple freeware program that has had lots of stuff bolted on to it over time). But basically I'd suggest exporting a complete DV formatted AVI file first, and then loading that into VirtualDubMod and setting the filters you need (such as de-interlace and scale - IN THAT ORDER, by the way) and then setting the output compression format and do a "Save As". It's a darn sight easier to do than explain though, sorry.

Or why not download the free version of DixV (from divx) and try encoding from the full DV AVI file using that format? It has both deinterlace and scaling options built in - just select what you want and set it going.

Andre
(who does vaguely understand about field order, but you'd all be asleep by the time I finished waffling on about it!)

I think I have it.

In the "File/Export Movie" menu, down the left is "Keyframe and Rendering" and within that is "Deinterlace Video Footage."

Also, above is "Fields: No Fields (Progressive Scan)"

That should sort things out.

I've always found that sort of wording can be a bit confusing in some programs - in some cases the option might be askign you if the SOURCE material is progressive scan (which it isn't) so be careful to check. Maybe the helpfile will give you some tips from that menu?

I render a snippet and then view it to see what's being done, as I am sure you do.

Another thing you could look at is the pixel shape for each medium during the rendering if you can select it..Generally , the square pixel is suited for the aspect ratio of coputer monitors while the non square pixel is best used for viewing on a TV screen.. Non sq pixel support helps avoid distortion and keeps the rsolution of DV andMPEG2 content..
