We stayed at the Chesapeake Resort in Islamorada and can highly recommend this place...very laid back and a perfect place to chill out..breakfast was a help -yourself buffet on the beach... it had 2 swimming pools and was very central for going down to Key West and sight seeing in the area.

We stayed in one of the Oceanview Suites but there were only three of us, you may be suited more to one of the cottages if there are four of you. Everywhere seemed to have a view of the sea but if you are booking I would request a view just to be sure. It was a very private resort, strictly guests only. You were never more than about a dozen steps to the beach whichever room you stayed in We were situated close to the Outback Steakhouse and the Islamorada Fish Company, I can recommend both for excellent evening meals.

If you take a look at my Trip Report, it covers the time we spent at the Pines & Palms with my penfriend from Wisconsin, great tips on places to eat, things to do etc.

Another vote here for Islamorada, it's central, we've stayed there a few times, the Pelican Cove is nice, but nothing really for kids except the pool, the Islander Resort is fantastic, you must take your children to the Theatre of Sea, it's a small marine park, worth half day visit. We're back there at the Islander Resort in September, can't wait. PS you must go to the Islamorada Fish Co. restaurant for dinner, it's great and at about 8pm they feed the sharks etc right next to where you are eating, fantastic, the kids will love it.

Aww, thanks for those lovely comments . I have not heard of Kelly's, whereabouts is it located?
If you try it make sure you tell us about it, maybe I'll pop it on my 'must do' list for next time!

I am very envious of you going this year, I'd love to read your trippie and see your pics

This is the place you're looking for:

Kelly's Caribbean Bar Grill, 301 Whitehead St, Key West, FL 33040-6542
www kellyskeywest.com/

(sorry, can't post links yet)

Had a quick look on tripadvisor and it really doesn't get good reviews at all!
