A Week In The West - Preamble
Preamble
Ah, we learnt last year that the best way to get through the winter blues after the excitement of Christmas has passed, is to book a holiday to Disney, as we proved with Mickeyetta last January. This also is a special time to go on holiday as Roo celebrates his birthday in the middle of this month when it’s normally dark and generally chilly in the UK. This past year Roo and I have been collecting British Airways Air miles as much as we can, mainly with our Amex credit card, but also a lot through Tesco’s rewards. With an abundance of miles in our BA account we used these to upgrade our World Traveler Plus tickets to Club – which means the flight is very much a highlight of the trip. So with minimal annual leave left, the only downside to our holiday plans – we planned a trip including the things we absolutely love to do in America. First a nice long flight to Los Angeles to get the most from Club for a brief visit to Disneyland staying at Paradise pier for only one night. Next a lovely long fly-drive (something Roo loves to do) in a swanky car to spend four nights at the famous Sin-City known as Las Vegas. There we were staying in a brand new hotel in a corner suite, hopefully for a relaxing (can you relax there?) few days gambling and day time drinking (it’s encouraged there so very acceptable). Also we were hoping to head out on a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon for some amazing photo opportunities. Finally back to LA for a couple more nights in the Hilton Hotel, more reasonably priced than the Disney Hotel, for another quick visit to Disneyland. The holiday was to be finished off by a luxury flight home returning to Heathrow Airport in the afternoon ready for work the next day (booo!). So yes it was planned, it was saved for, it was booked - we could now survive Christmas with our families as we had a week in the West (to be known as AWITW from now on) to look forward too! On to Day one - Hot Dogs, Jumping Frogs, Outbound Cookie Edited at 06:22 PM. |
