Currency card help please?
Really sorry if this has been posted loads before but could someone be kind and generously recommend a currency card and explain how to use currency cards in terms of how to pay money into it? Can you use them anywhere abroad or does there need to be a sign like we have the chip and pin sign etc over here? Also, how easy is it to change back any leftover currency when you get back? I've always just taken cash and travellers cheques before now. TIA!

I wouldn’t recommend any currency card, far to little help when things go wrong, I know money will be ring fenced etc but that’s little comfort whilst your away and it was going wrong.
A specialist credit card such as clarity etc is the best option, pay it in full when you get home, if it get cloned etc worry about it when your home, I wouldn't lose sleep with the banks money being lost! On a currency card that’s a difference matter as it’s your money lost until you get it back! Second best option would be a chase account, brilliant for spending abroad but it’s your money again if it goes wrong but unlike currency cards has the 85k protection of a bank. |

I use the revolt card - easy to add money and keep track of your spends, they have an app u can use and I have saved card to my Apple wallet, but have a physical card with PIN number for using but it works with contactless. There always super helpful if you call them for help and advice. I had a Thomas cook currency card cloned back in 2018 wasn’t an issue getting the money back that had been used by the fraudsters

Sadly I've got a bad credit history after a period of critical illness left me too disabled to work and I had to retrain for a whole different career so no point me even trying to apply for a credit card. All paid off now and has been for a while but my credit rating still isn't great, sadly. Appreciate the advice though... 👍

I use a mixture of options including a Revolut card, Starling account and a credit card with no foreign currency fees. Starling is a bank account with no foreign currency fees so you can transfer money in and out easily. It just exchanges into Sterling immediately at the current rate. Revolut you load and can either exchange each time you see a good rate or pay in Sterling and it’ll exchange at the rate at the time. Either are a good option and I use both to separate my own spends from group spends. I probably prefer Starling overall though.

For credit card either halifax clarity or barclays reward
For debit card chase Fairfx is also a good currency card, but I see little point in using it when chase offers you a better rate, free use of chase ATM's and 1% cashback. |

Thanks for all your help and advice folks. I've gone with Chase as so many seemed to rate it and it looked a good option. Will also take some cash and my main current account I use for everyday will be reserved for emergencies. I just wanted to ensure I had more than just cash. Will have the Disney Dining Credit and $200 gift card too.
