I’ve failed a bit at travel day pics.
We arrived at Gatwick just after 0700 for our 1000 flight, it was really busy but well managed. Apart from Pret which was chaos, felt so sorry for the staff. Our breakfast plan was thrown with no bacon rolls - so I picked up 2 croissants, a hot choc, soya cappuccino, raspberry drink and 2 of their amazing chocolate bars (I love these but read they are about 500 calories each 😮 - so these were for DC as my shorts are a bit snug - flippin lockdowns). This was about £16. DH went to Pure for a bacon and egg toastie and a nutty granola thing for me £7 - the toastie wasn’t great. Time was running out so we picked up magazines and water plus a bargain gin £15. The flight was really long due to winds - over 10 hours. Lunch was ok but sultanas in the vegetable biryani? Yuk. DC had pasta and meatballs which was ok. The Sauvignon was very reasonable. Watched 2 films and was all quite tolerable. Quite a slow immigration queue at Tampa, just asked a quick ‘are you here on vacation’ then waved through. No questions re food, thankfully for the Pret bars. We are staying at Sheraton Vistana for 2 nights before moving to Portofino Bay so did a quick Publix stop. DC and I have been really looking to a publix haul, we were quite restrained due to our first short stay. Just to give an idea on prices: Nutter butters $7 6 Glazed doughnuts $6.99 Strawberries $3.34 Watermelon slices $2.87 Oat milk $4 Cheetos party bag $5.79 😮 Goldfish crackers $2.29 Public chicken box $9.25 Hummus $2.50 Baby carrots $1 I’ll get better with the pics. Thank you for replies - need to work out how to reply to multiple messages. Edited at 11:32 AM. |

Oh I forgot to say the tea en route offering was a soggy and freezing chicken mayo baguette and a mini crunchie.
Surely BA could sort their sandwiches out ?! |

Day 1:
Awake at 0130 😕 but did manage to doze a little. Everyone was up by 0400 and DC decided doughnuts and goldfish were acceptable breakfast items - tbf it’s a pretty good call. DH had a doughnut and a piece of chicken 😮 presumably a diy homecoming offering. Don’t think he ate them together… I just had a oat milk coffee with the gold plated oat milk. First visit to universal today with the DC. We were upgraded to premium parking because we had to wait a short time - I did say was all fine. We started off with Spider-Man and on reflection this was probably a mistake - too loud (or I’m too old) and a bit full on (in contrast to Disney where our first day tide is always Buzz). DC looked a bit fazed so we wondered to Hogwarts to restore the holiday spirit. Wow - just amazing. We queued about 15 minutes for forbidden journey (closing eyes at the spiders) which DC loved and after a wonder round got the train to Kings Criss. DC noted quite a few items they were interested in Diagon Alley and as DH and I are rubbish at having limits, I can see quite a few of these items coming back with us. Some of the party were starting to get hangry - despite a snack of peanut butter m&ms. Lunch was at Mel’s diner. There was a misunderstanding with the order and DH ended up with a child’s meal. 2 burgers and a chicken tenders was $24. All nice. DC loved the theming. DH felt the portion size was ok, I had spotted the Mardi Gras food trucks and my plan was to order from there but somehow I ended up with: Fortunately for my shorts issue, DS decided this was to be shared. We both decided Cinnabon would feature heavily in the next few days. We’d spent 6 hours on the park and the sun was shining, so we decided pool time was in order next. I’m well aware of the lack of cocktails- this will be righted soon. The early start wasn’t conducive to alcohol - on day 1 anyway (amateur). |

Last night we grazed on hummus, salad, fruit not terribly exciting to post.
Portofino club breakfast this morning: All very nice and love the Portofino. There were also hot options, eggs, potatoes and I think frittata. Mid morning snacks: Love the plastic cheese but only on holiday of course. Pretzel was a bit too salty. DH loved his burger yesterday at the diner, so popped back there and I saw they had - no judging 😂 More plastic cheese yumminess. As good as the Disney version. DD had a strawberry milkshake which was more like an ice cream - I sampled quite a bit of this, it was so so delicious. Bit chilly today and a bit busier, cocktails appearing soon.
