I would leave mine for two days with royal icing, but as fondant is dryer, I reckon one day will be long enough!

A couple of days to make the marzipan dry. Then I use a brush to put a small amount of alcohol on top (brandy or what you use in the cake) so it sticks better to the marzipan

We put ours on straight away, and hubby is a pastry chef so I trust him!

I leave mine for a couple of days after putting marzipan on to let it dry out but I use royal icing. I did fondant many years ago and did both layers on the same day

Have just finished my cakes and left them for 24 hours between marzipan and fondant icing them. Another vote for brushing marzipan with alcohol to make the icing stick to the cake. I then normally leave the fondant 24 hours to dry before sticking on the decorations or I end up messing up the soft fondant icing.

Straight away is fine, doesn’t need any time to dry out.
I would do your marzipan as a top and sides so you get a nice clean edge rather than draping over as you would with the icing itself. |
