ESTA/Visa issues

Our esta application had been pending for ages. Eventually discovered it is because husband had worked a few weeks in Iraq. Now can’t get a visa appointment with US embassy until December (we are due to fly mid July) and can’t get it expedited at present. They just advise to keep checking for released appointments. Not sure how long we can realistically leave it before cancelling/postponing all our bookings. Anyone got any experience of this?

Sorry but I’d be cancelling now even if you got an appointment the visa may not be granted on the day, but sent for approval then issued
Even getting all the paperwork you need takes time
I’d start the process now and book the visa appointment for December if I were you

Hi

l've been through the Visa application process a few times and unfortunately, you'll be unable to get all you need by July I'm certain, cancellations do pop up for appointments but depending on what they're asking for from you, l think time is against you.

I would book the first available appointment if you have not already, and then gather all documentation needed.

Then daily check for cancellations once you have all you need, sadly it’s difficult to have the application sped up so it’s really a case of going through the procedure. As Gryff said you've to wait for passport/visa to be returned which was 2 weeks alone for me previously when approved on the day.

No help really but I would always suggest to anyone, apply for Esta well in time of your trip should any issues arise.

Best of luck.
