Glasgow folk- eating out
in a nutshell , driving our daughter & mate upto a gig o Saturday, spectacular bad planning of booking a hotel etc, she now informs me they have had a look & prices are mental (not as mental as when she first booked the gig months ago & was told to price up/book hotel..)
so me & mrs novo going to drive them up & back after the gig so we will have a few hours to kill @17:00-2230 ish so want to get a decent meal dosnt necessarily have to be city centre as will have the car & maybe a better option not finding parking on a saturday night open to anything, above average pub food, nice italian maybe ? TIA |

The last place I ate in Glasgow was Bucks bar. I think there are 3 or 4 locations in and around Glasgow.
It's specialty is chicken burgers but everything on the menu is available in veggie or vegan options. Always good food and far too much. I've never managed to finish a meal there. |

Here are some of the best meals we have had in the city recently:
theanchorline/ This is a higher end place but gorgeous setting and food was fabulous. thundercatpubdiner/ If you love a Giordano Pizza in Orlando, please try this place, the deep dish pizzas are amazing, but SHARE one! We ordered a deep dish pizza topped with salt and chilli chicken and curry sauce, my teeth are watering thinking about it! ardnamurchan.biz/ This is a lovely restaurant with a Scottish menu, this is nearer the top of the city centre though.

La Lanterna is my go to lalanterna-glasgow/place in Glasgow. Been going to Hope Street one for a lot of years.
From 18:00 on a Sat a lot of on street parking around there and going out towards SEC/Hydro is free I think - and the walk along the river out to the Hydro is lovely. If their concert is at Hydro - about 20 minute walk back to there - and walking is by far the quickest option.

There are loads of great places to eat in Glasgow, it really all depends on what kind of food you're looking for and how much you want to spend. If you have a car then you're probably better off getting out of the city centre as it's pretty run down and not the best experience these days.
Where is the gig going to be? Assuming it's at the Hydro then you're going to be quite close to Finnieston which is one of the real foodie hot spots in Glasgow at the moment. There you have options such as: The Two Fat Ladies at the Buttery - pricey, Scottish/British food. Should be very easy to get parked there (in fact I think they have their own car park) Crabshakk (seafood - not too surprisingly) Mother India (guess what kind of food they do) - one of the best Indian restaurants in Glasgow Mr Singhs - another Indian place, popular with tourists as the waiters all wear kilts Rafas - a relatively new taco & burrito place which has been getting rave reviews, including from US and Mexican expats which says a lot Ox and Finch - generally considered to be one of the top restaurants in Glasgow. They do "contemporary Scottish" whatever that is For all of the above, parking is going to be on the street and you might have to circulate around the area a few times before you find a space on a side street. It's a generally safe area though so parking on the street shouldn't be a problem. If you want to go further afield, there's some really good choice in the West End as well including The Bothy - one of my favourite places, so much so that we got married in their private dining upstairs. Scottish, British and medium priced Cail Bruich - Michelin starred and priced to match, you would definitely need to book Little Italy - specialising in Japanese food (only kidding) Cafe Andaluz - tapas, another one of my favourites and one that received the thumbs up from a Catalan friend of mine when we took her there last year In the West End you're more likely going to have to pay to park as most of the on-street parking is residents only. But you shouldn't have too many problems in the evenings. The above is really just a quick download of places I could think of in 10 minutes or so, happy to put together something more specific if there's anywhere you have in mind or an area you really want to focus on. Like I said at the start, there are loads of really good places to eat. Finally: Celinos - a great wee Italian place, they've grown in the few years from the original deli in the East End to having some really cracking restaurants around the city, including one in Partick which you should be able to find on street parking close to |

Everywhere that has been mentioned are great, some of our favourites are included.
But I have to add on Coia’s Cafe on Duke St. it’s fantastic and a real East End gem. Parking is on the street but we’ve never not been able to park. We have it booked twice next week as my boss is coming up for the night and we are taking him there.

Echo much of what beaker72 suggested having eaten at The Bothy, Two Fat Ladies and Mother India.
Would add Mother India's Cafe for Indian tapas, no bookings taken, you just queue at the door. |

The Dukes Umbrella in the City Centre is turning out fantastic gastro pub grub with a twist.
Walkable to and from the Academy with parking aplenty. Edited at 06:02 PM. |

I must agree, Coia's is brilliant.
I ate there as a child when it was a cafe, it was always full and always fantastic. I have taken my own children, been for date nights with my husband and it is still fantastic, whenever you go, whatever you order. I have never known anyone who didn't love Coia's. Too gushy? 😂🤣😂 |
