Stay at Grand Californian, rent points?
Hi
I’m not sure I’m in the right forum here as I’m not familiar with the lingo. I’m looking at staying at the Grand Californian in LA this Oct, and someone mentioned asking to rent points off someone with a DVC room there? How do I do this? I searched in another forum but no up to date threads were active. Thank you |

I own at VGC but sadly as it's such a small resort your biggest problem will be getting availability for a reservation at such short notice.

There is availability on the Disney site for our stay, it’s just someone mentioned using points which I know nothing about.

People rent them here https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=166 or you could try Davids DVC

Thanks, I’ve been in there but I can’t post anything as I don’t have access apparently. No active threads available

That's strange as I can. Have a look at David's DVC dvcrequest. I used them a few times.

I’d be surprised if DVC rooms were available at such short notice. There will be non DVC rooms available through the Disney site and I’d guess that’s what you are seeing available. I can check if you share you dates what is available via DVC (and what room eg studio / one bed villa etc you’re after)

1st to 29th Studio & 1 Beds are waitlist only so I think renting will be a non starter, unless you are after bigger accomodation?

Hi, Harmit2. Resorts tend to have two different inventories of rooms; those which can be booked for cash and those which can be booked using DVC points. There are often cash rooms still available after all DVC rooms have gone. I have just checked the Grand Californian and there is no DVC availability at all left for October this year.
Renting DVC points can save you a lot of money, but for popular resorts like this you generally need to be ready to book 11 months in advance, when booking opens. In future, you can either look on boards like this to see if anyone has points available or go with a broker like David's (dvcrequest/). As it's such a small resort you'd have to get quite lucky to find someone on here renting points at the right time, so you would probably be better going through a broker who will have many members on their books.
