Photo organising software - face tagging

I have been using Picasa for donkey's years, it's been discontinued for at least 10 but I still use it. But lately it crashes more than it works so I think it's time to reluctantly move on.

I have all my photos organised in folders by year / month and I'd like to be able to keep that within the software.

I also really like the face tagging in Picasa and would like something that will do that.

I have a lot of photos, so Lightroom will cost £20/month, which I don't want to pay, but if it's the only option then I guess I will have too.

I feel like I have tried just about every free trial going and nothing really works the way I want it too.

Any suggestions before I sign up for Lightroom?
I don't mind paying but I'd prefer it to be a one off rather than monthly if possible.

What phone do you have as I can tag faces in Photos on my iPhone.

Google photos does have face tagging but if you want to keep the original quality of the pics - the free allowance soon runs out

I have an iPhone which does tag the faces but I have 1000s of photos and they aren't all on my iPhone.

I also use google photos but not as my main organiser.

I think I'm looking for something that doesn't exist. Except it did and it worked really well until google bought it and killed it...

If you have Amazon Prime, Amazon Photos will do that. It’s free if you do have Prime.

If you have Microsoft one drive, I’m pretty sure you can organise by faces
