For the first time on record

The majority of babies born in uk were to mothers who are not married or in a civil partnership according to ONS

Doesn’t matter to me whether anyones married or not as long as the kids are loved and well cared for. Just thought it was an interesting statistic

The uk office of statistics gathers this information directly from data input into the system when a birth is registered at the register office.

One reason given was the large number of cancelled weddings due to pandemic

Definitely. My business is decorating weddings and a lot of my couples had babies while their weddings got postponed.

I love these statistics the ONS produce.

For example they did a survey of sex frequency in Men over 65.

Apparently the following was the result.

Men over 65 in France have sex once a week
Men over 65 in the UK have sex once every 10 days
Men over 65 in America have sex once every 14 days
Men over 65 in Japan have sex once a year.

This came as a heck of a shock to me and my Mates down the pub. We never knew we were Japanese.

that tracks, i still have 4 more weddings to DJ that were supposed to happen in 2020. i've also had a bunch of cancellations for one reason or another (people splitting up during lockdown was the reason for several)

but also, marriage is an outdated concept. i've been with my GF for ~17 years. we're just fine how we are. why would we want to spend all that money for a bit of paper?!

Haha we’re part of this statistic! No Covid delay for us, marriage has just never been a priority. As a previous poster said it’s a lot of money for a piece of paper. I know for others it’s means a lot more than that but to me it wouldn’t change our relationship. I suppose it’s something we might consider in the future so our daughter can be a bridesmaid and so I have the same surname as my partner and bubba but it’s not something that bothers me at the moment.

I sometimes wonder what century we are living in when studies are produced like that.
I understand if conparrison for the purpose that the oandemic stopped normal life so what actually happened but i don't care whether married or not as long as they are loved and cared for. There are some married couples who couldn't care less.
