Not a surprise. DD's peers/colleagues 25-35 are mostly unmarried/ civil partnership but own their houses (mortgages to scare you) ,have lived together for years. They have planned their families but don't see the point of a wedding/civil . "It's only a piece of paper".
So long as their happy & raising happy children that's all good.

I suppose it’s something we might consider in the future so our daughter can be a bridesmaid and so I have the same surname as my partner and bubba but it’s not something that bothers me at the moment.
Morally I agree, legally however it is still a very impactful transaction. Lots of, and dare I say it predominantly women, are left quite financially vulnerable if they have children and are very reliant on their partner to provide for them. Spend any time on relationship boards on the likes of Mumsnet and you will see how not being married can really screw unmarried mothers if the relationship breaks down.

Of course it can work both ways, but statistically, it is more often women.

It seems ridiculous in 2022, but marriage is still a legal union with legal and financial protections and ramifications.

It is now possible for heterosexual couples to have a civil Union. That protects rights, without the tag of ‘marriage’

Does it have the same legal standing as marriage? I don't know very much on it but I remember during the campaign for gay marriage it was stated civil partnerships didn't have the same level of legal robustness to demonstrate the unfairness as an argument as to why it was unfair for them to be disqualified from marriage as gay partners.

Wonder why this is such big news requiring the daily mail to have it on the front page?!

My son was born in wedlock - what difference does it make?!

Was a pain in the backside after I got married - took me months to fill out endless forms and traipse round places with my marriage cert to change my name 🤣🤣
