Mobile Booking flight before baby’s born

Can you easily add a baby onto a flight booking once the baby is born?

Looking more into flying with virgin. So if anyone has done this before experiences are welcome : )

Not done this personally as no children... but know many who have. It's dead easy to do too - just phone Virgin to make your booking (if booking direct with them) and say you will be +1 when you travel.

After baby is born you can phone Virgin to update the passenger name. Unfortunately, they generally won't block off the bulkhead row where the cot / bassinet position is as these generally remain under airport control for allocation on the day of travel.

We did that this year. Booked virgin through netflights. Called netflights to add baby on once born. Then contacted virgin to request bassinet seat. All super easy and no problems.

As said just phone once the baby is born and they will add and charge the current rate for the infant.

For information BA tends to be more infant friendly and so if flying from LGW can be a better option. Obviously not so helpful if Man or Gla etc.

The reasons I say this:

Firstly all of the party can book seats for free and you can also book the bassinet seat as you have an infant therefore you know where everyone is sitting well in advance (as soon as the infant is added). Much less stressful than hoping you get one at checkin and that your party is together especially during busy periods.

BA also have britax seats that goes on the skycot platform which allow older babies to sit in them and this allows an infant to sit in the seat way past the size of the cot.

Virgin does provide infant food (pre-ordered) however whereas BA does not which is a plus for Virgin.

Both allow 23kg checked allowance and 2 items (pushchair carseat etc) and Virgin allows 6kg hand with BA giving 23kg but for all purposes not an issue

We did it a couple of years ago for our granddaughter. If I remember correctly when we booked approx a year in advance we sad the baby would be 6 months old when we traveled, I think they did price it with her included? We were just told to ring & confirm once she was born.

Our Son and Daughter-in-Law are joining us in Florida in March and taking our new Grandson with them - booked flights with Aer Lingus months ago to include baby. Baby born 28th Oct and a phone call to supply his name shortly afterwards and all were "good to go". They were allocated the bulkhead seats from the date of booking.

Booked for 6 adults & 1 child in February for travel in December in the knowledge that there will be 2 new arrivals to be added to the booking later in the year. Phoned VA after the births on each occasion who added the infants to the booking after taking the payments (+tax) for them. New Booking Confirmations showing the addition of the 2 infants received within minutes of adding them on.
