Flying with Infants on VA
My whole family (6 adults, 1 child & 2 infants) are off to Orlando in around 4 weeks and would like some advice about checking-in for our VA flight. I have already telephoned VA and requested 2 skycots/bassinets for the infants and because of this I am unable to reserve any seats for my party and the skycots are alocated on a first come first served basis.
Is it best to wait until the day before to check us all in online or wait until we get to LGW and use their Twilight Check in the evening before we fly? Either way I am a bit concerned that we won’t be allocated the seats where the skycots are positioned. I’m not worried about my OH and me not sitting in these seats but I want to make sure the infants’ mums and dads are with them on the flight. |

There are very few sky cots on the planes and they are only really useful up to about 4 months(6months at most). If you do get a bulkhead seat then your party will be split in the rows behind them. I'd consider whether you really want the sky cots or you would rather have your family at hand to pass the babies around and book your seats now.

If you've put requests in you may find that your seats have already been allocated to you on the 24hr before check in time.
We flew last month and had chosen 18 A/C for myself, DW and DD (9 month old at the time) and 19 A/C/D for the in-laws. Plus a request for sky cot seats. 24hrs before check in I, well, checked in and saw that we had all been reassigned to row 14 so we had the cot and the family were kept together. Same happened on the return, checked in 24hrs before to see seat assigned to row 14 again. As for the cost themselves they, as posted above, aren't much good past the 6 month stage however my little one who is quite tall/long for her age squeezed in just about for two sleeps going and a five hour sleep coming back. |

We flew virgin this September with 9 month twins. We put in a request when we booked and were allocated bulkhead seats a few days before travel. However we were told the skycots were only suitable for much younger infants.

The other problem with bulkhead is that you have to put everything in the overhead for takeoff and landing. I found it quite awkward not being able to have things handy in a bag in front of me.
If you are unlucky and have turbulence you also have to take them out of the skycot every time the seat belt light comes on.
