ATD email

So I ordered 14 day Universal tickets including 1 visit to Epic a while ago, paying deposit only, as it happens we are also staying at HRH May 22-24 booked before the Epic opening date was announced

Got an email yesterday saying that due to high demand there is a chance Epic Universe may soon reach capacity on some or all of the days you are set to visit, as you’ve only paid a deposit, the date is not booked & confirmed until the balance is paid in full. I know we are there at the time of Epic opening so maybe that’s why, just making people aware

I agree, I paid the balance , anyway it doesn’t affect me too much, was planning on paying final balances on most of pre booked stuff on December 10th but if you were planning on 8 weeks before departure it may put you under a bit of pressure just before Christmas

Call me a cynic but ATD wouldn't know it's close to capacity so must have been told by Universal, are other sellers saying the same and or is there any other reports in the public domain that tickets may be suspended?

I questioned at the time when ATD said a deposit would not guarantee your ticket as to why, usually a deposit secures both the price and guarantees the product subject to the purchaser paying the outstanding balance.

It's not as if your booking a specific date for Epic, your booking one day in a fortnight window-if you get there late and it's full you will be turned away but will be able to try again on a subsequent day.

Be interesting to see if ticket for the initial opening dates are removed from sale any time soon...

Tbh did think there was a bit of a smell of a cash grab off it but as I said it didn’t really affect me that much, my tickets are available to download, came through shortly after paying so 🤷🏼

I don't think ATD are saying it's close to reaching capacity. Instead they are saying "there is a chance Epic Universe may soon reach capacity". Which is true. There's also a chance that, say, Epcot may soon reach capacity.

Words like "chance" and "may" indicates that they know nothing other than the fact that tickets to Epic, especially in May/June, are popular. Which we already knew. This email is just a way to get people to pay up sooner so that ATD gets their money sooner.

What they are making clear is that the tickets aren't secured until the full balance is paid. Nothing is secured by a deposit - neither access to Epic nor even the tickets themselves.

Hi. Claire here from AT.

I wanted to jump on the post to provide some reassurance. As Universal’s largest ticket seller in the UK, we are in frequent contact with them about the capacity at Epic during the launch period. We have been advised that Epic is reaching a stage where capacity is getting quite tight around the 22nd May 2025. Consequently, we have advised our customers that to guarantee entry, they have two options. They can either pay in full for their tickets and receive a gate-ready ticket immediately or leave their booking on deposit and we will swap their tickets to ‘kiosk collection’. Either way, the booking and customer will be registered in the Universal system. If customers select the first option of paying in full, we would pay Universal immediately and issue the gate-ready ticket. There would be no ‘cash flow boost’ as has been suggested. Having been in business for over 20 years and served over 8 million customers, we have no desire or requirement to boost our cash flow. Our only intention with the recent communication is to provide the best possible customer service, give customers two good options for ticket fulfilment and keep them updated with the most recent information about Epic.

I hope this helps with any concerns you have, but of course, feel free to message me if you would like to discuss further.

So, from the above, I would assume that it means as the OP has paid a deposit they are guaranteed a ticket, albeit they have to collect that at a kiosk.

So why did ATD send out an email to the OP saying "as [they'd] only paid a deposit, the date is not booked & confirmed".

Are the OP's tickets with the selected start date booked and confirmed on Universal's system or not? Are they guaranteed to receive their tickets even though they have currently only paid a deposit at this time?

Yes the "reassurance" post raised more questions than it answered but then given their price for the ticket under discussion is £502 and a competitor is £413 I wouldn't be purchasing from them anyway. £89 more expensive from a company that "guarantees to be the cheapest"!

To me, the post from ATD says, everyone is always guaranteed a ticket of course. However, due to the way Universal are restricting capacity, your date is not confirmed until it is in Universal's system. I take this to mean, you are not in the system until paid in full. So, to combat that, they will switch to will call tickets so that it is then in Universal's system. This means, you don't have to pay in full just yet. Am I wrong? That is how I read that. If that is the case, then there is no cash grab as you can leave in deposit?
