Pacific Northwest Aug 2019 - Day 2 Silver Springs State Park and Rosebury

Despite the long travel day, we were all awake at 4.45am thanks to the 8 hr time difference and pesky jetlag. So we made a cuppa and watched the TV until it was time for breakfast to open. Although it was only 6am, the breakfast room was busy and it amazes me how early many Americans get up. We were all really hungry and it was a reasonable hotel breakfast with sausage, eggs, bacon and waffles.

We then set off on the road trip proper with the first stop being Silver Springs State Park. Annoyingly it was grey and raining - but this was probably our only wet day of the trip so we can’t complain. The park was beautiful, despite the weather and it stopped raining as we set off on a 3 mile walk to see various waterfalls, including one you can walk behind (and see the backside of water for all you Jungle Cruise fans )

The walk was lovely and even had a bit of an ascent so it was good to get some exercise after sitting for most of the previous day. Once we finished the loop we had a drink and snack before heading back to the car for the drive to our first stop - Rosebury. On the way we stopped at Dairy Queen for lunch, which was all better than we expected and then called into Walmart to get a few supplies. The tiredness was really starting to kick in now and we all wondered around in a bit of a daze, forgetting what we came in for. As usual Daniel did well with a new watch, socks and t-shirt.

We then checked into our hotel for the night which was a Travelodge - so much better than the UK version with an exceptionally friendly woman who checked us in. The boys went for a swim in the gloriously warm pool, which was heated to 85 degrees whilst I had a nap. We had a quick drink outside the hotel before heading across the road to Denny’s for tea.

I had a salad, Steve a breakfast Skillet and Daniel ordered what he thought was a cheese and ham toastie, which turned out to be exceptionally sweet, topped with sugar and not that pleasant at all. We wondered back to the hotel and all crashed out to sleep at about 8pm.

Thanks for posting.

My oldest DS has recently started encouraging us to visit the Pacific Northwest. Don’t know much about it. Looking forward to reading more.

Thanks.

Poor Daniel, sugary toastie sounds a bit grim. Good day otherwise though and nice to stretch your legs.

Silver Springs looks lovely. Who doesn’t want to see the backside of water

What a shame about the sweet toastie a great day overall! Thank you.

A great first day, Silver Springs State Park looks lovely.

Going around Walmart when you're tired is dangerous, you could end up with a canoe, a massive bag of Cheetos and a shotgun

We did end up with a ginormous bag of Cheetos though. Fortunately no canoe or shotgun!
