That's really lovely. We have some tapes of my Nanna too, but it's ones she always did with us and we'd pretend to be radio presenters, it's so funny to hear stuff like this years later. After she died we took them from her flat to listen to, but sadly on one of the tapes she'd recorded over us and was ranting and raving about all of her family, not her children and grandchildren, but more her mother and siblings, and being really verbally aggressive towards them. It was really upsetting at first, but then she said something that clicked with us, and we were able to date it to when she had a water infection and was very confused which resulted in a 2 week hospital stay, and the recording had been done the night before she barricaded herself in the flat and we had to get the police out to kick the door in.

My Nan wasn't all.sweetness and light. There is some arguing going on in the tape with my Aunty when they didn't know it was still recording
It was just how they were though, fought like cat and dog but loved each other really 😍

We don't have anything like that, but would like to get my mum to do something similar.

Even more maudlin but you can buy records these days with recorded messages in which incorporates some of the family members ashes. A truly different kind of momento.

I often think it would be good to listen properly to all the old stories. Having them recorded would be a real bonus.

Thank you this has give n me some real impetus.

This brought a tear to my eye & I am not even cutting onions!
My grandad past away early this month and I think that is a lovely thing and wish he had done that as there are so many stories I don't know about!

That is so lovely. I don't have any sound recordings of my Nan or my Dad sadly but a few cine films (which are silent) that I have had put on a DVD. I can read my Nans lips and almost can hear her voice...
I have DVD's of our Florida holidays from 1993 onwards and on there have film and voice of my Mum who I lost in 2007. At the time of the recording you never think of how you will view them in the future.

Oh that's lovely - as the years pass I often think it's a person's voice that you can start to forget. Luckily I have my Dad on video but it would be lovely to hear my Gran's voice again.
