The Orlando Sentinel has reported the following:

"Disney has said the theme parks can use higher prices to help manage crowds."

So it seems the business plan is fewer people for more money and less wear and tear.

Not sure what you mean by "discount"? Do you mean between the standard pass and Florida-resident pass?

That's been Disney's business plan for several years now. It's why they keep significantly increasing the prices of all their tickets.

It's one of the few ways they can try to reduce crowd levels whilst still increasing profit. Crowd levels being one of the main complaints of guests (and, let's face it, it's only going to get worse when GE opens).

Correct - a Florida resident pass is cheaper than a out of state annual pass, ie, they get a discount, but not much of one really in the grand scheme of things.

DVC members pay the same as Florida residents

I didn't think they had actually admitted that's why they keep increasing the prices until now.

I just heard by YouTuber Disney In Detail that the resort parking is also going to increase. We stay offsite anyway but I'm definitely glad we're going in September. It's getting a little pricey now.

Relatively speaking, the discount for Florida residents has increased. The Florida resident APs have increased by less than the Out-of-State APs.

Yes it went up today. The hardest hit of the resort categories was Values, where the $2 price increase is around a 15% increase. Moderate and Deluxe hotels saw a $1 increase which represents a 5% and 4% increase respectively.

Edited to add; If you have a pre booking the old rates will apply for the rest of this year and 2020.

I think they said that's what they were doing when they introduced seasonal pricing (for example). It was done in order to control crowds and push guests away from the peak periods and more towards the off-peak periods.

For the last few years one of the main criticisms has been how crowded the parks are. Demand is high. Therefore Disney increase prices to reduce demand, potentially reducing the crowds, whilst still receiving the same (or more) money. Unfortunately, it looks like they haven't increased prices enough because guest numbers keep on increasing even though the prices are increasing.

Even if they haven't outright stated it in public, it's pretty much the standard supply & demand pricing model that many businesses adopt.
