There are loads of hotels right by the train station and close to the port. We always stay at ibis or novotel and go to TGIs - which starts our holiday 😁 but you have premier inn, jurys and holiday inn too. If you search west quay Southampton 😀

Definitely just get a taxi direct from Newcastle Station, it’s only 9 miles to the port, will cost about £20 in a private hire, maybe slightly more in a station black cab. Not worth faffing on with the metro (it’ll cost £3.70pp and is a long walk with luggage)

Or take the metro to the next stop, North Shields which is in the town centre, and get a taxi from there.
It’d take about 30 mins or longer with cases to walk from North Shields metro to the port but only about 10-15 mins in a taxi.

I would get a taxi from North Shields.

Ooooor you could get a taxi from Newcastle Central Station which would take about half an hour.

Well done for your explained. I asked my husband and he said metro exactly same what you had mentioned it.

Same here the Ibis and Novotel are both great and within walking distance of the train station depending on which side the train drops you off at. There is also a nice Premier Inn down at West Quay (by the shopping centre rather than by TGIs)

We were going to wait for the Disney cruise but gave in and booked the msc virtuosa last night .
Been on msc meriviglia so a similar ship, and it was beautiful, I didnt like all the languages and the fact it was too busy. So said we wouldn't do msc again , but I doubt we will have that issue this time. So happy to be going away again, and only 33 sleeps away.

Thanks, presume West Quay is near the port? We won’t arrive till almost 11pm so will grab a taxi.

Yes its about 10 mins in a car if that from the station or to the port I think. There is a bar in the Novotel that does snacky food and I think they had 24 hour room service in case you are hungry when you arrive

For Southampton I would book whichever is cheaper out of the ibis, Premier Inn Novotel. If you are arriving so late, Premier inn West Quay is about a half mile walk and the others similar.

All the hotels are near the Port, However, not as near as they look we often pass people on the “walk”. Looking as if they wished they had paid for a taxi.

if not parking at the Port we use West Quay Cars, pre book and they send you the car registration no etc. Always found their service perfect.

Please note that these responses are via the press/comms office and have been authorised for release.

1. Back to back sailings WILL be permitted but they are awaiting further info on the specifics (how many nights/testing etc)
2. DCL requires all guests aged 11 and over to wear an appropriate face covering. We are waiting on specifics for this like when can they be removed, are there exemptions?
3. DCL actively encourage guests to link their bookings but they cannot confirm the max number of guests per dining table yet
4. All categories of staterooms will be available, just reduced in numbers. The % capacity of the ship is not being released currently
5. DCL will not require guests to have travel insurance - please note, you are mad as a box of frogs if you do not get it though!
6. Confirmation that the alcohol policy remains in place, but the age limit for bringing it on board is now 18 and not 21. Guests aged 18 years or over are permitted to CARRY on (not in main luggage) up to 2 bottles of wine/champagne (up to 750ml per bottle) OR up to 6 cans/bottles of beer (up to 12oz per can/bottle). This alcohol is for drinking in your room only. Any excess found will be destroyed at the port, not held and returned as normal - Please don't be that person, alcohol does not cost that much onboard!
7. The ship will sail in UK or International Waters at all times
8. Guests age 18 years or over will be required to show valid Government issued ID before embarkation. No ID for 17 yrs and younger

Hope that helps some people :-)
Joa

Joa,

Thanks for this and I know you have done many cruises. Any guesses on the price range for 2 / 3 night cruises for a couple?
