We are wanting this cancelled now so that we can get our money back and use it.
The plan is to spend 15 nights in Mexico and then onto Orlando after.
We’ve looked into two return flights.
Gatwick - Cancun
Cancun - Orlando
Orlando - Cancun
Cancun - Gatwick
The cheapest option for the main flight is with BA.
We have looked at a couple of insurance companies that will insure us against FCO advice and battleface being one (way too expensive) and the other was something called fatcat (quarter of the price)
Anyway, there are insurance companies out there that will insure you. As a family of 5 with no health problems, Fatcat came out at £300 ish.
Nothing is booked yet as we are relying on our current flight being cancelled. We don’t want that flight to go ahead and then lose 2k.
Hope this makes sense 🙂
We initially looked at two return flights like that - but when we did a custom trip option with BA it worked out cheaper so don’t know if that’s an option for you to explore?

We did LGW - Cancun and Miami to LHR, we’ll book the Cancun to MCO leg with JetBlue or Frontier.

That worked out the cheapest option for us.

From what I’ve read it has to be 14 clear days, so 15 nights - 14 wouldn’t be enough.

To those who are there now? Have you got to isolate or test when arriving in the US?
I’ve read that you have to and I’m worried now.
I’m sure it’s new news as I’ve not seen it before when researching.

We did a different option of booking multi flights through BA and worked out a little cheaper.

I’m in USA after being in Mexico last month and no didn’t have to.

I think it is the FCDO change to information today that is what you are referring to.

Previously they said vaccinated people just needed antigen test to enter and unvaccinated SHOULD take another test 3-5 days after arrival and self quarantine.

Change today seems to be vaccinated are required to take test 3-5 days but no self quarantine, but there is mention of them not accepting UK vaccine record.

They don’t currently have any requirements to prove vaccinated or prove you have a test pre booked so don’t know how that would work as it would need to be done via the state you visit.
