I have had several aborted landing in Carabbean airports. The airports do not have the quality of radar lock in that large airports have. Therefore the pilot must have sight of the whole runway to land. What can happen is a squall comes across the runway when you are nearly down and the pilot has to pull back up.

I’ve never had an aborted landing... but have had an aborted take off! We was speeding down the run way, about to take off... then the brakes was applied...taxied back to a gate whilst they sorted the problem out.

When I used to fly alot (mainly for business sadly) i went through a period of 3 months where i had 3 aborted landings and one aborted take off. In the case of the landings it was due to other aircraft not having cleared the runway.
The pilots are well practised in these procedures thought - obvs I'm still here to tell the tale !

I once spent a glorious afternoon in the Sofitel lounge LGW which has the most brilliant of runway views.
In those few hours i must have seen 10 aborted landings, to be told that these are commonplace. Disney332

I’ve only experienced one ‘go around’ as they tend to be called. It was in Tenerife 2 yrs ago and we were just a few 100 ft off landing and then the engines just went on full and up we went. I’m a nervous flier but also obsessive about it and knew immediately what was happening and was able to remain calm for my daughter! Pilot came on after a few mins to say the wind had suddenly hit an unacceptable level and they had to go around. A bit disconcerting but totally normal and nothing to worry about.

Dont quote me, but i dont think the number of runways matter.
Potential bird strikes are often the reason for an abort. Disney332

I used to fly from LGW to Cincinnati quite often on delta flights. I remember one take off we were lined up at the end of the runway at LGW when the pilot revved the engines ready for take off and then cut them back.
He came onto the PA and announced they had a "serious red light" come up and had to go back to the terminal So back we went whilst they called out the engineers who couldn't find the cause behind the light so the pilot announced they had taken the light out and were flying anyway There were some worried passenger faces but we arrived in Cincinnati safe and sound.
