Absolute must do’s with 5 and (nearly 2) year old.

Hi,

Haven’t posted here in quite a long time. We’ve been to WDW on numerous occasions but this summer will be our first time with children❤️ We haven’t been since March 2014 on our Disneymoon and I’m sure WDW with children is a very different experience😅

As the title says - what are your absolute must do’s with young children? Although we feel at home and clued up at Disney - we’ve got zero idea when it comes to taking kids so treat me like a beginner😅 From the tiniest little things to the most elaborate.

How exciting taking your kids for the first time. We took our daughter in 2018 (she was 19 months) and she had a ball.
My advice would be don't over plan, take plenty of snacks into the parks and take it at their pace!

We did a crystal Palace breakfast - she loved it. Rides like nemo, living with the land, dumbo, winnie the pooh all went down really well and she loved them. Also the safari and rafiki's planet watch was great as well.

We had done disney loads before having kids but it's definitely different with them and it's great seeing it all a different way.

We took our son for the first time a couple of years ago when he was 6. He loved it all. Some of his biggest smiles were at the smallest things. For instance the 'jumping ' fountains at Epcot, the water play area in Magic Kingdom and the people mover.

I think it's important to remember you don't have to pay for all the experiences to have a great time.

In no particular order, the things he enjoyed in addition to the ones above

Playing the 'drum ' things in Pandora
The nature explorer quest thing in Animal Kingdom
The pirates quest thing in Magic Kingdom
Tom Sawyers Island - quiet and peaceful and you can let them run off and explore - i mean run ahead down the winding paths without fear of them being lost in a crowd
Tomorrow Land speedway
Waterparks

He enjoyed the rides ( he was tall enough for them all including ToT and Rock and roller coaster) but looking back to then and even last year they weren't the main draw ( even though we went on lots) and it was the 'little things' he enjoyed the most.

Do All the little things. Like the water play areas. The boneyard. The maze in Epcot uk. Trains in Germany. There are so many small things we race past that are worth seeing and the kids love them as much as the rides.

There used to be a water play in Epcot on the bridge to world showcase but I think it’s moved to near test track. My kids have spent hours playing in there. We always carried a change of clothes and if they wanted to get wet they could. It didn’t matter.

Oh yeah, I forgot a out disney springs and the fountains. They are so much fun.

How wonderful! We've just come back with a 3 year old but also took him when he was 2. You'll have a great time, but I would suggest just go with the flow and try not to pack too much in.

We have loved puddles and fountains. Collecting transport cards (and going on as many different types as possible). Playgrounds in the parks and hotels. Going on the rides that we could go on (you will possibly want to split up as the 5 year old will be able to go on things like barnstormer that the 2 year old won't want to or won't be tall enough to, and I can imagine that the unfairness of that will upset the 2 year old). Meeting the characters and getting their autographs is a big one.

For the adults, the childcare areas in the parks were great. A bit of peace and quiet in between the mayhem.

Are you staying in a resort or a villa, and how long are you there for (and what time of year)? Also what are your kids into? We had a great afternoon at art of animation (staying at POFQ) where we saw all of the cars characters and went on the skyliner!

There is a thing in Epcot where you get a little phone and solve clues. It might be too hard for little ones but it’s a good way to explore the countries and see some clever surprises.
