Will chocolates melt in the suitcase? And candle wax melts

I am planning on buying LOTS of American chocolates and sweets. But on my inbound flight back to London, they will be in my main suitcase in the hold.

Has anyone done this before? Where they melted? I'm not sure if I should take chocolates in my hand luggage - but I suspect the cabin may be hotter than the main hold.

Also, whilst on my big American shopping craziness, I plan on spending a lot of hard worked saved up money in yankee candle and bath and body works. Now I know it would not be advisable to take big glass jar candles in my hand luggage, but I'm trying to save space by taking those little wax melts or wax votives in my hand luggage - will USA security have a fit if I carry wax melts in my hand luggage? Id hate to spend money and get them taken off me.

Thanks

I think the hold will be significantly cooler. There’s no need for them to heat it. I’ve never had any chocolate melt and definitely not candles.

We’ve just bought both back. I’ve had slight leakage on my candles, but they were wrapped in wax paper so it didn’t go on anything else. Our huge chocolate haul, mostly from ghirardelli with left over credits, was fine. Both were in the hold and we had connecting flights.

The only chocolate that was less than perfect was boxes of milk duds and junior mints which were a bit squashed together in the box. But then they could’ve been like that anyway! Ghirardelli was fine

thank you for all the replies!

So ok I will put any chocolate in the hold. And as for candle wax melts, I might even substitute some clothing into my hand luggage (I've got a mini wheelie case thing) so theres room in the main case for wax melts. my hand luggage is practically empty outbound so inbound I can throw a few t-shirts and maybe a pair of trainers in there to make extra room for the candles.

I am flying PE so have 2 big cases for the hold, but like I say, I've saved so much money and intend on spending it all :-)

We bought a ton of chocolate and candles home with zero issues

The hold is actually always cooled by the aircon, this is why the cabin can get so cold as when you use the overhead air vent it's just circulating the air from the hold

would you recommend wrapping candles in clothes and towels?

I have (believe it or not lol!) bought a huge roll of thick bubble wrap to make sure all my glass jar candles are safe.

Just wrap them in the bags they were given to you in

For the larger candles I'd wrap them in the bubble wrap.

thank you, everyones been really helpful!

is it true that yankee candle will change the lid of the jar candle to a lighter weight one as well? cos those jar lids are thick glass and weigh a ton.
