I have travel insurance via my bank which includes airline failure. Might be worth thinking about.

The failure insurance providers are now saying they will not offer cover- for example, Protect My Holiday will no longer write policies for TC- they think it is too risky or have too much exposure.

You may want to check this as these are generally annual policies and it may be that if your flight is booked before your policy renews and taken after that it is not covered. I am not saying that this is the case but I would check as this would be the case with many annual policies.

I had some tests and called my banks insurance number (Axa with Lloyds) and they covered me for no cost that year but wanted £400 extra the following one, we chose not to take it and took a policy with the post office.

Insurance

We booked flights with TC for next August using a credit card, so will be covered if they go bust. But Is there any insurance that will pay out for your accommodation if you can't get alternative flights ( for example, if an airline goes bust right before your holiday) ?
Thanks

Evening all.. been to Disney almost every year and never knew this site existed!

Wish I was visiting on another more cheery subject but I’m worrying as we are only 4 weeks away from flying out. My sister who was travelling to Europe in August apparently got a letter to state they may be in trouble. Has anyone else had an email ? She cancelled in the end and another thread started on here has the OP cancelling too.

Would love to stick to the facts rather than commenting on anything else.

I’ve checked virgin and the flights aren’t great, well I could pay £15k for upper class but that isn’t happening unless there is a major problem getting flights.

A letter from who?

As for facts, TC have stated they have enough money to get through the summer and more money arranged after this ( dependant on progress with the airline sale). Ernst and Young , the auditors ,said that TC should be able to stay afloat considering all the uncertainties they face.

I’m going in 6 weeks and am also a little nervous. Obviously we have paid the flights so couldn’t cancel and rebook. Things should be ok for the summer.

Simon Calder has a good piece in the independent today, worth a read.

Would also be keen to know who sent your sister a letter?

Quite ironic that around 15 or so years ago Thomas Cook were quite openly bad mouthing and joining the media chorus in scaremongering clients and potential customers on the fate and financial stability of the then Airtours/My Travel organisation, only to watch the MT share price plummet and fall more and more into debt ( sound familiar?) before going in for the kill when the price was good, albeit under a "merger" arrangement.
What goes around...

A-ologies all. She said it was an email and I’ve asked for a copy. Will update.
