What to do on first day in Orlando
We are off to Orlando in October. It will be our first visit with our son who will be just turning 3 and my niece who is 9. I know we will be up super early, usually we are up and ready to hit the parks on day 1 but not sure how the kids will be. does anyone have any advice on what to do on our first day with kids that age?

As you are awake a stupid o'clock, get up and go the park of your choice ( MK or ak with little ones ) do as much as you can do then when everyone gets tired, leave go back to hotel for a swim and have an early dinner and not a late night. We did this last year with a 4 year old and she was fine

Definitely a park for opening and leave for the pool as soon as they hit the wall.

We get to the parks for opening. In fact we always book an early breakfast in magic kingdom before opening. It’s brilliant!
We are usually flagging around lunch time so we go back and play in the pool etc |

As above - get to a park first thing. If Saturday is your first day then I would avoid Magic Kingdom but Animal Kingdom would be a great alternative. Then take the afternoon to relax at your accommodation. Don’t try to do too much on your first day - it could end in tears - literally.

I think when you get up will depend on what time you get to your accommodation. When we went in September we didn’t get to our house until 9pm. My DD who was 3, only slept for about 30 mins on the plane and then in the car from the airport, had a new lease of life in the house and by the time we’d had something to eat it was going on for 11pm before we went to bed, so we were pretty much up at a normal time.
We keep it pretty leisurely, last year we had to collect our tickets and magic bands from Disney Springs anyway, so did that after breakfast and then went to Typhoon Lagoon from about 12 until 3.30ish. Having said that, pre-DD, we have arrived at more sociable hours and been in bed by 8-9pm before and been up at 5am. In 2007 we did a park on day 1, but had enough by lunchtime, and vowed never to do it again, but in 2014 we did MK on day 1 because (unusually for us) we’d booked a few nights onsite before moving offsite and we wanted to take advantage, but this time I booked lunch for 1pm and just didn’t try to do too much. Pace yourself, but especially the 3 year old, but everyone is different, just remember the parks will still be there on day 2, 3, 4... etc. We keep it as least stressful as possible and let ourselves adjust to the time change before hitting the parks. We normally hit the parks from day 2. |

The last couple of times we have been to WDW we have booked a 7:15 table for breakfast at Chef Mickey's fab start to the holiday, monorail to MK and then back for a swim after lunch.
