Can somebody explain fly-drive please?

I know the answer is in the question but, we always book a flight, and then a car to travel over to a vacation rental.
Lots of people have said its less expensive to get a fly-drive package, but do I have to book a hotel with this?
Thanks

Sometimes you can add hotels on. In our experience fly drives are ok if you are happy to take what you get. They are usually only a basic car, by the time you add on the car you want etc we've not found it cheaper.

No. Itís a package of flight and car hire.
For some reason with some airlines this is cheaper than just a flight. Not always but itís worth checking.

No. You can just book flight and car. I prob look at BA more.than most. When you start the search you have the choice ofnflight, flight and hotel or flight and car. Pick flight and car.

You can also add or remove the car towards the end. Occasionaly this throws up a decent deal too.

BA is woth Avis. Not sure of others.

The Avis car included with a BA fly-drive is also fully insured. $1m SLI and full CDW. Some fly-drive offers only include the state minimum SLI of $20k so worth checking that quotes are comparable.

One of the key things about a fly drive (fligth& car) is you are covered by ATOL, for some flight only you are'nt.

When you choose a car & flight option with ĎBAí, youíre actually booking it with BA Holidays, not BA; separate companies but still both under the IAG group of companies.
BA Holidays have more access to the cheapest fare classes than BA which is why car & flight can sometimes be cheaper than flight alone or only peanuts more despite getting a fully insured car; you can choose whatever size/class of car you want to include.
Plus the other benefits of a BA flydrive: deposit only, free 2nd driver & bonus Avios.

Yes, we got a bargain with BA when we booked a couple of weeks ago. Intermediate car for 16 days for just over £200 after cost of flights. Only downside was we couldnít use any of our avios to pay for the package (whereas we could for flight only) but decided saving was worth it. Bigger cars were literally only a few pounds more but we like this size.
Definitely worth checking out if the Ba flight is otherwise good for you.

With BA you choose the car you want, and it comes fully insured.

Also don't forget that flydrive is classed as a holiday and ABTA/ATOL protected (usually) and you can also usually book with just a deposit and pay nearer departure. If you just book flights you normally have to pay all up front at time of booking
