genetically engineered mosquitoes

Who got the job of counting them all!

750 million genetically engineered mosquitoes approved for release in Florida Keys

The mosquito, named OX5034, has been altered to produce female offspring that die in the larval stage, well before hatching and growing large enough to bite and spread disease. Only the female mosquito bites for blood, which she needs to mature her eggs. Males feed only on nectar, and are thus not a carrier for disease.

ok, so in the way of these things lately - what HAVEN'T they thought about... there is bound to be some vital thing that needs the original mossies in order to keep the world alive... (I am not a very trusting person where genetic manipulation is concerned)

Agreed. The world is interconnected in ways we can only imagine.

In a couple of years time we will no doubt be reading about trillions of alligator size man eating mosquitos which have destroyed the everglades.

And I wouldn't want the job of counting them either!

If this works it is a good thing and can hopefully work towards an end of malaria particularly in lesser developed countries and on a selfish note less bites and scars for me

Ok I'm really struggling to think of one instance where a modified or even "alien" species has been introduced & actually worked ? Cain toads anyone ? I'm pretty sure Love bugs were an experiment or the topper of them all Killer bees!

... the chances of a Godzilla type incident are simply far too high. So far this year we've had bush fires in Australia and the Amazon, potential world war started in Iran, Presidential impeachment and killer hornets in the USA, Brexit, Corona, cancelled Olympic Games, explosions, wildfires, floods and quarantine. A nice big mosquito monster after the US Election would just about finish this year off perfectly.
