Exchange rate for Citibank account?

Hi

I know the exchange rate for a citibank dollar account is slightly above the tourist rate but was wondering if there is any way of finding out the exchange rate before transfering money across?

It's for my brother, I've arranged everything for this holiday now it's seems I've got to sort out his spending money too, he's useless at planning, more so when he's single lol! I'm trying to work out if he'll get more for his money getting it from a site you can order the currency from in advance, it's not very far in advance so rate isn't that much better than high street or paying it into my citibank account.

Thanks

I'd Be wary of the rate you get quoted over the phone.
It's likely they will quote you their tourist rate, not the transfer rate.
Trying to get them to understand the difference isn't easy at times.
It's the one thing that lets them down.

It's normally well above the tourist rate

You can see that the transfer rate is virtually bang on the exchange rate, which just now is $1.543.

My account has just opened and I sent money over yeaterday. I will report back when the account is credited how much I got.

I was working on the theory of being happy with anything over $1.50

thanks Jakey, I have never actually phoned for the rate I just watch in general and when its good I transfer. My dh phoned to let them know we were going and it just confused the issue and he got cut off 3 times, sure it was a foreign call centre

Quick update and purely for info ... transfer sent on Monday credited Today went through at 1.55.

BBC Market data reports current rate as 1.56670 with a 0.28% increase today so depending on the exact time of the transfer can't confirm exactly how to track.

If you use bank transfer to load your account, you can't really find out what the rate will be. After initiating the transfer, it usually takes two working days before the money actually reaches your account, and it will be at the rate of that day, not the rate on the date when you made the transfer.
