Have Disney Lost Their Originality?
I make this post as someone who absolutely loves Disney and THOROUGHLY enjoyed all of...The Lion King & Aladdin remakes as well as the Toy Story 4, Incredibles 2 and Mary Poppins Sequels. I'll also, without doubt, be paying to see Frozen 2 and Star Wars later this year too.
But recently I've been reading lots of people critical of Disney, under Bob Iger, that rather than risk taking, they play safe with countless remakes and sequels. I get why they do this after all they're a business at the end of the day. And you can't argue with the fact Disney are in probably as secure a position as they've ever been but I do feel like a few more risks, a few more genuinely new ideas would be amazing. For example Coco instantly became one of my all time favourite Disney Pixar movies when that came out and Inside Out was great too. With the resources at Disney's disposal and the creative minds that must exist within the company wouldn't it be great to see a commitment to more new characters and ideas? |

Don't forget Mulan is coming out next year too.
I completely agree..enough with the live action now. It would be lovely to go watch something new from Disney rather than remakes. Not seen The Lion King yet but so far Aladdin is the only live action that I've enjoyed (hated Beauty & The Beast and it's my all time fav animated film). |

I agree with you about Coco, it is a fantastic film, I really enjoyed it.
As for remakes, it’s easy money for them, they know people will go and watch them.

Yep that’s what I mean it’s a safe bet. I get that and to be honest I like what they’re producing, so it confirms it’s a model that works (for now at least)
I just think for a company as amazing as Disney with their pool of talent a few more original stories would be good. |

I loved Aladdin, did not like Dumbo and could take or leave The Lion King remakes - I only went to the last two as I had a cinema pass.
Also looking forward to Frozen 2 and Star Wars.

I have loved all the live action ones, the only one I wasn’t sure about was The Jungle Book. We only saw Aladdin this week and me and DS adored it. I love Disney animated films, but I think the live action films are a bit more for both adults and children to enjoy.

There are original films coming up in 2020, ‘onward’ in early 2020 and a jungle cruise film on its way amongst others.
They also have had a film in the pipeline for a few years called Gigantic, but it’s rumoured that they are having issues getting the storyline to fall in to place so it keeps getting pushed back.
