Question VH rebooking - deposit only?

DD and SIL are due to go to WDW in August with Virgin Holidays and are due to pay the balance of their trip in late May. On the basis that VH may not have released any definite information about cancelling their trip before their payment due date, they are looking at their options so that they can make an informed decision before the penalty payment dates kick in.

If they rearrange their trip (if that's an option) for 2021 before the balance due date for their August 2020 trip, am I right in thinking they wouldn't have to pay any more at the moment, and the deposit would just be moved across to the rearranged 2021 trip? Theoretically, could they still amend / rearrange / cancel the new 2021 trip nearer the time too?

If so, this seems to be their best option as the worst case scenario would be that they'd lose the deposit further down the line - something which would happen if they cancelled now anyway.

Apologies if this has been explained elsewhere, but I couldn't find it!

Our £900 deposit for our July holiday has moved to our rearranged Florida December holiday. We don’t have to pay the balance now until late September. We kept the same holiday booking reference and have been told that we can rearrange again if we need/want to. We didn’t pay anything extra to change the holiday - although it is a more expensive trip !

Also, we needed to pay the original balance a few days ago, but still feel in limbo and don’t want to go away yet, needed to pay balance, lose deposit, etc. This change of holiday give us more time for things to settle, we may still end up losing the deposit, or changing holiday again, but it gives us time.

Thanks for this - just the info I was looking for!

We contacted the man (Anthony, I think) from VH who helped us arrange our original holiday. We found the holiday we wanted from VH website, contacted him via email and sent our phone number. He called us when everything had been finalised (flights we’d seen were unavailable, and things were going up and down in price) and we were ready to officially change everything.

hiya we did just this ourselves last week. We was due to go on q9th August. We had paid most of the holiday off but a balance of £900 due 27th May. I text them a request to move to next year. I had priced up hotels on there website Nd changed our split stay of this year to 14 nights at aventura . We only have to pY £200 more for next year and don't have to pay the remaining now until next year in May. We did have to pay £50pp amendment fee the day we changed though. Luckily we had a call from a rep because we was waiting 5 days between texts for replies. But assorted with a new count down
