Caribbean Beach Resort expansion and Old Port Royal closure for refurbishment

I thought this may be of interest to anyone going to CBR over the next couple of years.

Permits have been filed for a large expansion project at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort.

'The addition of 7 new buildings will include one large multi-level building, which appears to be home to a large number of guest rooms.

Plans show that the new large building will occupy land that is part of the existing Barbados village of the resort, which will presumably be demolished for the expansion.

Along with new construction, there are also changes planed for the roadways and retention ponds.

Work is planned to begin in 2017, with completion in 2019. It isn't clear yet whether Disney Vacation Club villas will be part of the development, and Disney has not yet made any official announcement of the project.

There was talk of a moderate DVC property at CBR so I'd be surprised if this isn't that. CBR isn't popular enough to expand otherwise.

Yes, the rumoured DVC building was my first thought too. Will be interesting to follow!

Oh wow, hadn't heard that. Wonder which part of Barbados it'll be, lake side or back toward Custom House.

I'm guessing CBR won't be putting guests in surrounding Barbados rooms to the area where construction will be.

Guess time will tell - once work begins 😳

I doubt it as CBR has been cheaper than POR/FQ for a few years now and is the same price as CSR.

Damm! This will be my first time able to afford a moderate and this was the one I was going to pick I hope the construction starts after I've been.

It's more that POR/FQ are dearer than CBR. They increased the price a few years ago when they realised how popular they are.

Depending on the area you probably wouldn't notice. It's a very spread out resort. Have a look at a plan.
