I love horror movies, I can’t just pick one. I really like Tartan Asia Extreme, the Zombie genre, the Japanese versions of the grudge/the ring.
I dislike The Blair Witch and The Paranormal Activity movies.

I remember watching psycho for the first time I wouldn’t shower in the house alone for many years. Even now I get nervous, totally ridiculous.
Psychological horrors have more effect on me |

I love horrors but get fed up of modern films using cheap jump scares rather than an effective plot/real scares. I always find myself watching them waiting for the obvious scare (oh, look, someone looked in a mirror, then glanced away... I wonder what'll happen when they glance back in the mirror... etc etc)
I still love Event Horizon, even though it's a bit old now, and Alien, even thought it's not a horror per se, still sticks in my mind as having some effective scenes. Other recent ones that I thought were ok were Sinister, Saw (the original as a standalone), Hereditary, and Apostle. The wife rates the paranormal activity series but I don't like many 'found footage' films as they seem to rehash a lot of stuff.
