Exclamation No More Shipping Goods/Boxes Ahead Of Cruise

Just learnt (from another well known board) that you can no longer ship goods ahead to the port.

This is a real shame because we have often arranged for surprise gifts (from US websites) for our kids, to be delivered to our stateroom - it was alot cheaper than doing gift baskets, or DCL cabin gifts, and gave us more choice ..also we have sent for pirate costumes to be delivered saving us packing any.

It was a great bonus previously having this free service (excluding website delivery charges of course) - I know we will miss it. The kids will be disappointed next time we cruise (oops did I say next time ! )

... apparently the port was getting inundated with boxes, and since there are more and more restrictions being placed on what could be in them, it was prooving an impossible task to check each one.

That'll be that lady who does the baskets out of business then!

Mind you, hopefully she can carry on with the other cruise lines that sale out of there.

No - infact the opposite - she has a special licence/ agreement with DCL, so she should do very well (especially as she can also include alcohol that is now prohibited from being carried on board- I know I ordered some for the DH)... however, I dare not say this on the 'other' board (as she posts on there alot, and has a big fan club) but I have used her twice, and not been impressed . ...

First time our baskets went on the wrong ship - OK ...a very uncommon occurance but it happened to us.

Second time, she charged alot of money for not alot of stuff, and some of the stuff I'd asked for (and thought I was paying for) was not included. When I asked her about it when we got back, she was very evasive and blamed the fact that my last email didnt mentioned these items (even though I'd specifically asked for them in all the other emails).
I won't be using her again - but she does have plenty of fans nonetheless and she is still cheaper, and has more flexibility & choice than the DCL gift offering.

I think I know what board you mean J. I was going to order the Romance Basket for my DBF but from Disney, not from that lady.

I looked at her stuff after reading so much about her but decided I would be better off getting it direct. Glad I am now!

Have you done your trippie yet? Have I missed it?

We're cruising next October and I hope the rules may be a little more relaxed by then. Disneys documentation has always said no alcohol, but they've just turned a blind eye. We carried on a rolling cooler full of beer and wine last time and no-one said a word.

My other thought - I might wrap a few bottles in wrapping paper and if they ask say they are birthday gifts etc for fellow cruisers. You never know - it might work

That's a great shame for a lot of people who are used to being able to ship things ahead

It's sad you had a bad experience with the company you mention Judy, I've always had great service though. Perhaps we could avoid getting personal about certain carriers though, and just keep this discussion to a general one? i wonder if this will be a permanent thing now...

Sorry ...I had hoped I had made it clear that this was purely from personal experience (and was careful to steer clear of directly naming the person/company involved)... people regularly go on this board and say what they think about the service from Virgin, USrentacar, Disney etc... from their own experience... did I do something wrong ?

no problems Judy, just thought this was a thread about the fact that DCL have made this decision...not really about one other particular company...
