That is very true. Most of these cards are pro-rata so you could cancel when all the refunds have been made and get the rest of the year back.

I see today the miles have gone from Virgin and started their journey to Hilton.

Ours is next week I think and we were going to cancel and then thought of refunds and the hassle that it would be. So we're holding on at the moment. and hoping for the best!

So if I am able to move my approx 110,000 virgin airmiles to Hilton to keep them "safe" - could I transfer them back "easily" at a later date if I wanted to?

Yes and no. The value is hilton is far less in the points world. Virgin only give you two for three. If you transferred them back you would only get around 40000.

To be clear moving from Virgin to Hilton is not a great thing to do value wise. It really depends on if you think you will be able to use the virgin miles in future. Will they still be in business.

I have had my virgin miles for years and never been able to use them due to where they fly from and their very high charges making the use of points almost pointless (sorry). Best use was an upgrade.

We used 210,000 miles May last year to get First / Business return seats to Tokyo via ANA airline, for £720 or so in taxes / fees, hoped to do similar soon with miles I have
