I’m not an expert but wonder if it could be a wheel bearing issue? Does it start when wheel off centre in both directions?

Yes it does, the sound is definitely coming from the driver's side front wheel, it's noticeable but not very loud when off centre but as soon as I turn hard and brake, even slowly braking, that's when it's very loud and sounds like a metal grinder

I've emailed Toyota customer service but will call Monday when they reopen, depending what they say I will call the AA.

And is it only when braking?
And does it get worst the more you turn the steering wheel?

Maybe not brakes but CV joint. Maybe wheel bearing.
None of these should happen in a new car though.

Definitely gets worse the more I turn the steering wheel.
I'm so annoyed about it, it's my 4th Yaris and the only one I've had a problem with.

I agree but could be a manufacturing defect or an early life failure (bathtub curve).

In that case it could be the CV joints. These “bend” more with steering movement. The sound is normally a grumbling or grinding sound.
On a new car the only way this could really happen is if not properly lubricated at manufacture. Or the cover was left open and lubricant escaped and dirt got in.

Go to a big empty car park and drive the car in ever tighter circled slowly and check it gets worse. That is the normal check foe cv joints. Don’t use the brakes when doing this.

Thanks again, will give that a go.

And if it is the cv joint it can be done by any mechanic. It isn’t a specialist job. While I haven’t replaced on on a Yaris, I have done many ober the years.
Obviously you would want the dealer to sort it for free. But if it is really bad ant you use the car a lot you will probably want it sorted in u can.
If it completely goes you will lose drive to the wheels and be stranded. Though for that to happen it would need to be very badly worn.

My opinion is that you have picked up a stone and it’s between the disc and the brake backplate. You won’t see a mark on the disc as it will be on the backside of disc.
This can happen at any time and may have not been present on collection of car.

We had this on one of the5 Yaris’ we have owned.
If it’s a new car and less than a year old call Toyota Assist ( you should have the number on the screen at the top left, or from your membership card.) They should send the AA. If it is a stone the technician will loosen the backplate and remove. If it’s not a stone they will advise.

Thank you, and thank you everyone else who has replied.

Plan of action tomorrow will be calling Toyota Assist and hopefully they’ll be able to shed some light on it.
