DS’s has been postponed but no new date planned at the moment. As others have said it’s sad that he won’t get to celebrate with his friends but I think they’re still hopeful for a meet up as they have accommodation paid for until the end of July.

Hi guys we had flights and accommodation booked for son’s graduation in bath which of course won’t happen but we have a slightly different view that it’s not really that important. Over the last 3 weeks he has had 2 parties while sitting in our dinning room , first party his university hockey club where they all got dressed up shirt tie etc, 16 of them all on line together all with drinks and food. They gave out there prizes and the laughter from the room was loud. Last week he had a similar night with his team mates From bath buccaneers , on this occasion it was as if they had just played there last league game and still had there kit on . There are ways and means if people want to get together, I’m sure some of your kids could also do something like this. Sadly you and they just need to get on with it and hopefully they will all be starting work soon which IS THE IMPORTANT THING

I think this is a bit harsh. Everyone has to 'get on with it' but they are still allowed to be disappointed in the way things have ended.
My dd should have been doing GCSEs this year so we have similar feelings, albeit we have further celebrations to look forward to so not the same as missing graduation.
Graduation was a massive thing for me as it's the end of 'schooling' for most people!
Everyone understands why these occasions have been cancelled but doesn't stop disappointment.

Capitals in forums mean that you are shouting. I find your message very harsh indeed.
In the scheme of things, everyone on here knows that life is far more important than a celebration but it is still absolutely OK to say that we feel the disappointment for our children.
Just like the Year 6 Mums and Dads and children as well as the Year 11 and Year 13 children who have all been affected by the current situation. They are all important milestones where our children move on to pastures new.
My DS is having weekly quizzes with his friends but that was not the main topic of this thread.

My DD’s graduation has been cancelled too. It was announced soon after the lockdown began. She was understandably upset and hasn’t had any update yet as to whether they are going to set another date later on or if they aren’t getting anything.

At least with graduations there will be the opportunity to do it later (not the same of course) although every graduation ceremony I’ve ever seen has alway being more about thanking families for their support rather than the student’s milestone.
The year 6/13 kids probably won’t get a delayed celebration though.

I can’t even begin to imagine how much tougher finding a first job after uni is in the midst of a lockdown for these kids though. The ones who got recruited early must be counting their blessings !

Hi folks sorry not shouting but trying to be realistic about what is now important in the way we find the world today. With parents and in-laws in there late 80s we have other things on our mind. Like many of you our son has lived away from home for 3 year and has a lot of friends at uni that he keeps in touch with. We also have the added problem of having to get over to bath from NI to clear a flat Etc but it’s just something we have to do.

Even the ones who were recruited early are potentially going to suffer I'm afraid. DS has bee told " no guarantee " regarding his graduate post due to commence in July - offered to him over a year ago during placement year (QS student). His peers with other companies are in the same situation

My daughters graduation was meant to be in July but they cancelled it in March. Obviously we are all disappointed but we’re glad it was cancelled then rather than go through weeks of wondering if it would go ahead or not. I believe they plan to hold it at a later date.

This is the same as our DD - at least we knew more or less straight away. They are talking about a December graduation instead but nothing is definite yet.
